- ¼ cup white rice (Use short-grain or medium-grain rice, like Japanese rice or Jasmine rice. )
- 1 cup milk (Optional. Feel free to choose from fat-free, 1%, 2%, or regular milk. You can also substitute it with the same amount of water.)
- ¾ cup water (Add 1¾ cups of water if you are going to skip the milk)
- 1 tbsp honey (Optional)
- 1 sheet rice paper (Optional)
To Make the Korean Rice Mask
Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water to remove any impurities. Add the rinsed rice, water, and milk (optional) to a nonstick pot. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer until the rice is soft. This should take about 25-30 minutes. Stir the mixture occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom.
Once the rice is cooked, blend it in a food processor or blender until you get a smooth paste. If the paste is too thick, you can add a little water or milk to achieve your desired consistency. Mix in 1 tablespoon of honey. (Honey is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture into the skin and helps retain it, keeping your skin hydrated and soft. ) Store your homemade rice mask in a sanitized airtight container and keep it in the fridge for up to 1 week.
To Apply the Mask
Wash and dry your face thoroughly. Apply the rice mask evenly over your face, avoiding the eye area. Leave the mask on your face for 10 to 15 minutes, allowing the mask to fully absorb into your skin.
Optionally, cut a sheet of rice paper into smaller pieces to fit your cheeks and forehead. Fill a shallow dish with water and submerge a piece of rice paper for about 3 seconds. Apply the softened rice paper over the rice mask layer on your face. (The rice paper helps lock in the moisture and nutrients from the rice mask, allowing for better absorption. It also offers a soothing, cooling sensation, making the mask application more comfortable.) After 10 to 15 minutes, carefully peel off the rice paper mask if using. Rinse your face with warm water to remove any remaining mask residue. Pat your face dry with a clean towel and follow up with your regular skincare routine.
